The Derwent Valley Writers’ Festival is a celebration of all things story, held in the beautiful Derwent Valley just half an hour north of Hobart.

In this, our inaugural festival, we invite story-lovers of all ages and abilities to gather in the historic setting of the Barracks Art Gallery for a weekend of local literary fun.

Attend a workshop on writing for young people, or listen to the fascinating story of the resurrection of palawa kani, the language of Tasmania’s first people. Learn how to write about food from some of Tasmania’s best chefs, or take the kids to a screening of a storybook classic. Spend a night enthralled by local storytellers’ tales of adventure, or while away an afternoon becoming a published author at our micropublishing stall.
